Basic Obedience

This is a six week long class for dogs who are over 9 months old or have completed a Puppy Class.

The cost of class is $155.

Class will take place from 7:30pm-8:30pm Jan 5th - Feb 9th.

Basic Obedience class will be working toward becoming a Canine Good Citizen dog. Classes include practicing basic commands and house manners, i.e., polite greeting with 4 feet on the floor, stay at the door, wait at the food dish, leave it (things on floor or ground) and focusing with distractions, noise tolerance and enjoying the company of other dogs and people.

Socialization with other dogs is an important part of this class.  Dogs will have an opportunity to interact with the other handlers and other dogs.

Peggy Dobbins has been teaching dog obedience since 1983, originally with Northern Virginia Community College, and then with Lake Jackson Kennels, and now with Waggin' Tails Junction. Peggy regularly attends seminars and clinics and has participated in clinics presented by Max Parris, Linda Tellington Jones, Ian Dunbar, Pat Miller, and others. Peggy has competed in obedience, tracking, field, agility, and conformation. She is an AKC evaluator for the Canine Good Citizen Test and a Therapy Dog International Evaluator. She currently shares her home with Ritz and Mac. Ritz is an active Therapy Dog who has worked at Central Library for the past five years during the Summer Quest Program. During the school year Ritz attends Cougar Elementary School and Signal Hill Elementary School to have children read to her. She is registered with Therapy Dogs International.  Mac is the "new" kid on the block currently studying obedience, agility and K9 Nose Work®.  Peggy served Prince William County as a First Grade teacher for 25 years and survived with lots of patience, a good sense of humor, and a love of children. All of these skills apply to teaching dogs.
