AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy

Seven week long class for $155

Instructor: Peggy Dobbins

Puppy Classes include valuable training tips for puppy owners – how to housetrain – and lessons on practical skills for puppies – coming when called. This program is open to all dogs - purebred and mixed breeds. Puppies can begin training as soon as they have the necessary vaccinations and they can enroll in AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy. At the end of the training course, the instructor will administer the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy test.

 

Upon passing, owners and their puppies may enroll in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program and will receive an AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy package which includes: A frameable certificate, AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy medal, AKC Puppy Handbook, Discount enrollment in AKC Companion Animal Recovery, Subscription to monthly e-mail newsletter that includes training tips. This class will help you learn the most effective and gentle ways to teach practical skills.  There are 20 objectives that a handler and puppy must achieve in order to successfully pass the STAR  behaviors.  To review these 20 items please visit www.akc.org/starpuppy/test_items_pledge.cfm.

 

Peggy Dobbins has been teaching dog obedience since 1983, originally with Northern Virginia Community College, and then with Lake Jackson Kennels, and now with Waggin' Tails Junction. Peggy regularly attends seminars and clinics and has participated in clinics presented by Max Parris, Linda Tellington Jones, Ian Dunbar, Pat Miller, and others. Peggy has competed in obedience, tracking, field, agility, and conformation. She is an AKC evaluator for the Canine Good Citizen Test and a Therapy Dog International Evaluator. She currently shares her home with her golden retriever, Zing. In the past, her goldens have been active therapy dogs and have had children read to them at local elementary schools and libraries. Peggy served Prince William County as a First Grade teacher for 25 years and survived with lots of patience, a good sense of humor, and a love of children.
